I purchased in Keene, NH about 20 years ago a sampler, "Wrought by Martha Cowles aged 10 years - M. Root, Instructress." An typescript says the sampler was given to Jennie Tyler Cowles as a Christmas gift from her son and daughter in law, Lewis and Lorraine Cowles in 1981 and presented by Jennie as a birthday gift to to her granddaughter Lynette Cowles in 1982. The piece is a bit faded - on it Martha stitched the names, birth dates and marriage date of her presumptive parents and the names and birthdates of herself and her siblings.Contact me for more information.
