Maria Louisa Cowles was born on April 20, 1795 in Farmington, CT and died on September 26, 1884 in Dallas Co. AL. She was the daughter of Jonathan Cowles and Esther Lewis of Farmington, CT. She married Robert Darrington James from Clarke Co. AL in about 1816-1817 in Farmington, CT. They had the following children:
1) Frank B. James, born 1829 in CT.
2) John James, born 1832
3) Maria Louisa Cowles born 1833, d. 1874, m. Samuel Thomas Boykin of Dallas Co. AL in 1853 in Clarke Co. AL.
4) Robert Darrington James, Jr. born 1838
