Keith, I just found this site! This may help you..... 1860 census at Tolland, Hampden, Mass. ---"Mariah" age 30, b. Ireland, with Asahel and kids 1870 at Tolland ---"Mariah" age 40, b. Ireland 1880 at Granville, Hampden, Mass. with husband and four kids, "Mariah" age 47, b. England, both parents born England. Also, in the 1860 census there is an unnamed son, age 9 months, whos birth date does not fit that of the two unnamed sons in the Cowles books. And, Anna, age 5, is with the other kids in the 1870 census.....and her age is quite aways from that given for Flavia Ann. More kids? To me, it's pretty definitive that three of three censuses list Asahel's wife as Mariah, not Maria, despite the marriage record. That may help in your search for her parents. It appears that her land of birth is still unclear. And, in the 1900 censuses, son Wallace lists his mother's birth place as England, son Harvey lists his mother's birth place as Ireland, and daughter Merceline (widowed, and under the name of Cowles) lists her mother's birth place as New York. If you are interested in Mariah and Asahel's posterity...besides the well documented list of Wallace's kids, Harvey and his wife had at least five kids, all living in 1900, and one, Walter H., marries and has at least three kids by 1920. Harvey's family, and Walter's, are not yet listed in Familysearch. If that is of interest to you, please let me know, and I'd be happy to pass on to you that information. Good luck!
