I really don't have any followup for you but it's interesting that my grandfather's name was Harry Eugene Cowles.
We have a family tree that looks like a very huge oak tree. It goes back to Capt.John Cowles. In this tree there were many Capt. John Cowles.It was hard to tell which one we came through.I do know that John Alden and Pricilla Mullens were in our branch somewhere.
I have info on our line.A name also in the not too distant past was Remember John Cowles
