Hi there,

My mother's predecessors were from Norfolk (around the Norwich area - circa 1800's) and they also pronounce the name "Coles" Sometimes on census returns I have seen it spelt as Cowell, but generally Cowles. Didn't realise this until we visited Norfolk last year and were put right on how to say it.
