One branch of my Family Tree goes back to a John Cowles who was born in England in 1598. The name was changed from Cole to Cowles when he and two brothers, James and Richard, left England and came to Mass.in 1635. John settled in Hartford, Ct. in 1636. Later he lived in Hadley, Mass from 1664 till his death in 1667. He and his wife Hannah (last name unknown) had 7 children. Their second son, Samuel was born in 1639. He was married to Abigail Stanley and they 11 children. One of them was a son, Samuel, Jr.
