I first took part in the National Geographic Genographic project. It tested 12 markers. https://www3.nationalgeographic.com/genographic/?fs=www3.nationalgeographic.com It goes back to the ancient history and migration. It was quite interesting, especially the CD that came with it. It is exciting, at first, when you match with many many others. But, I now realize the likelyhood of you having the same markers with others at the 12 markers is quite high without any close connection in ancestry. From that I joined the COWAN project and expanded my test to 37 markers. There is a large data base made up of more than just family DNA testers. I match up up with some 25 marker testers, but non-Cowen (or similar name) and have found no connection. There are Cowen/Cowan/Cowin etc in some of their trees, but none that matched with mine. I have no matches at the 37 marker test. http://www.familytreedna.com/dna101.html I have not found any ancestry connections via the DNA testing, but have 'met' via email several interesting people who have helped in my search, and it is interesting to hear their stories. I still hope someone with a similar DNA as mine will be tested. Notify Administrator about this message?
