I am looking for information on the Cowen (aka. Cowan, Cowing) family from Kennebec County, Maine (primarily Hallowell). I have a Hannah Cowen, born on 28 Mar 1770 in Hallowell, Maine. She married Asa Mason on 25 Nov 1790. Her parents were Abisha Cowen and Sybil (____). Other children of Abisha and Sybil are as follows:
Sarah, born Mary 13, 1765
Reuben, born Oct. 27, 1767
Rebecca, born May 30, 1773
Levi, born June 3, 1775
Bathsheba, born Feb 3, 1778
Mary, born March 5th, 1782
Abisha may have also been known as "Jabez" Cowen, or Jabez may have been his brother. I have copies of town records from Hallowell, Maine, but the family listing is very confusing. I was hoping someone out there had done research on this family and could clarify the relationships for me, or we could simply compare notes. Does anyone have Sybil Cowen's maiden name?
