I'm looking for anyone that might be able to help me with the captioned ancestor. He is my great grandfather. He married Martha Jane Griffith 11 Dec 1853, Rock Island, IL. I have them in 1860 census still in the Rock Island area. The family story goes "...The parents of Norman Cowel and his brother died when they were young boys. They were placed in foster homes but Norman being dissatisfied, ran away drifting here and there, after which he lost all contact with his brother...possibly of French descent." I feel like this is going to be a tough one to find. His sons names were: William Anderson, George Ernest, Francis Marian, John Simeon, and Walter Irvin in case there might be a connection to his brother or his father. He died 2 Dec 1896 in Arkansas. ANY help will be most appreciated.
