Hi Elizabeth,
My wife has Cowell ancestors from Woodbridge,New Haven,Ct.;We don't know much about them except a little that we have gotten from the family and the census records.
My wife's g-g-grandfather was William H. Cowell. He was born in October of 1857 in Ct. (I believe in Woodbridge).
His parents show to be Phineas and Henrietta B. Cowell on the 1860 census.William later married Mary Ann of Boundbrook,New Jersey, they eventually settled in Monmouth County,(Highlands),New Jersey.I do not have Mary Ann's maiden name at this time but I am working on it.Phineas is also shown on the 1850 census but is only 15 yrs. of age and appears to be out on his own.The only other Cowell I can find in Woodbridge is a David Cowell but he seems to disappear from the area.
Through family lore we were told that there was an actress in silent movies in the family so your posting really sparked our interest.
Maybe you could fill in some of the blanks for us,you seem to have quite a bit of info.
Thanks,Bob and Joyce
