Sorry to be late in responding. William Cowden, son of James and Janet and husband of Mary Henry died in 1778 in Worcester, MA. Generally Cowdens in eastern PA are not descendants of James of Worcester. Some of his descendants did move into Erie,Crawford and Warren Counties in PA from Chautauqua Co NY. James of Worcester had six sons, the youngest of which was named James, not James Persis. The next youngest was named John and although "The History of Princeton" (MA) says he went to Canada. If he did, he did not stay long. He was not a Loyalist, but he was a trouble maker. He was in Cambridge NY in 1795 according to his brother Robert's will and I believe him to be the John Cowden in Salem NY in the 1800 Census. I also believe him to be the John Cowden in New Haven, VT in the 1810 Census. The "History of Princeton says he had two children, Heber and Susannah and "others born in Canada". I believe he also had Rebeccah, Thomas and Samuel, all born in Winchester NH, where he lived in the 1780's.
