The Cowden name is Scottish. It was originally MacCowden. The family who all American Cowden are from, went to Ireland. There they dropped the Mac.They then came to America in the early 1600's. I have heard two stories. There was either 4 brothers or 4 cousins that came over. They were first in Penn. Then have scattered all over the U.S.I have copies of serveral books about the Cowdens in America.
I am stuck on my husbands line.I can only go back to a census of 1880, but it has so hunband listed.I have yet to make the conection with the early ones that came over.I am at work, which is where my e-mail is.If you want any infor from the books I have, e-mail me and I will bring then to work and answer you.
Hope this helped
