Daniel Turner Cowart, 82, pioneer West Texas cattleman and stock farmer, died in a local hospital Tuesday. A resident of Mercury, McCulloch County, he was visiting his son. Dr. Robert W. Cowart of 4315 Worth, at the time of his death.

A native of Greenville, Ala., Mr. Cowart came to Texas in 1871. He settled first in Robinson County and two years later pioneered in San Saba County.

Surviving are three sons, Dr. Cowart, Charles N. Cowart, Mercury, and Lewis J. Cowart, Teague, and two daughters, Mrs. Charlie Locker, Locker, San Saba County, and Mrs. R. F. Christmas, Mercury.

The body will be taken to Mercury Wednesday night for services there.
