Do any of you Cowarts know of black dutch? At a family reunion I overheard an aunt say we were black dutch.I never did get to ask her for more information before she passed away.My grandparents were James E. Cowart b.1888 and Lena Leona Reynolds b.1885.G-gparents were Andrew Jackson Cowart b.1863 & Sarah A. Millican b.1871.My G-g-gparents were Stephen B. Cowart b.1822 & Julia A. Hart b.1832.I have read that the term was used to cover up Indian heritage as there was fear of losing one's rights. Thanks for any information that would make a connection for the reason once and for all that there is a tradition of black dutch in our line ofCowarts.Sincerely L.Hurst
