Good to hear from a fellow researcher. I know of your James but it is not my line. My Coward family came from Virginia, to Chowan County NC, then Craven County, NC down to Anson County, NC then into SC. My ancestor was a James Coward also. I corresponded with some descendants of your James back in my early years of research. I will have to go back and look at my early information. I will let you know what I find. In the meantime there is a book done by a Mr. Robinson called Coward/Cowart Chronicles. I can't remember exactly if your James is in it but I am thinking he is. If you can find it, it might prove helpful. I have a copy and will check it and see. You can e-mail me at if you want to talk further.
