My branch of the Cowart family is from the Mississippi and Louisianna part of the country.

I have always been told that the origin of the name is English, and that it is derived from Cowherd, or a cow herder.

I have been trying to trace my family back from Lee W. Cowart of Roxie, MS, but have had very little luck.

If you can help, I would appreciate it.
