Hi Susan,
I have scads of info on Col. Coward. You are very fortunate to be related to such a delightful character. I searched out quite a bit on this line of COWARDs because I am sure that somewhere down the line, my tree will fit into his. Col. Coward was the President of The Citadel Military College after the Civil War. My son is a cadet there and hanging in the library is a beautiful oil painting of the Col. He is the spitting image of my great Aunt. They could be twins. Too much is the same for us not to be related. I quickly tried to locate my Col. Coward info, but could not do so while on-line. I will find what I have a email you again. I have visited his grave at Rose Hill Cemetery in Rock Hill, SC. He and Brigadier General Micah Jenkins formed a Military School for Boys there after the war. Col. Coward wrote a book THE SOUTH CAROLINIAN. It is long out of print and very rare; however, you can get it on loan from libraries that have it available. In our library, it is on the registered shelf and not available for check out. Off the top of my head, I remember his uncle's name was Solomon. His brother's name was Jesse James Coward (he died in the Civil War and is buried next to Asbury and Eliza).
Will write more later. Connie in SC
