I am a descendant of Varner D. Cowan and have some information. I have a distant cousin who has been wonderful in providing information. It is my understanding that Varner D. Cowan's farmhouse was destroyed in the Battle of Stones River in Murfreesboro, TN and that at least part of his farm became the Stones River National Battlefield Park.
