The following are helpful references and sources for research on the Covingtons of Richmond Co NC:
Benton, Carol E. Richmond County Grave Yard Record and Tombstone Records, 1996.
Includes dates and relationships from gravestones.
Bridges, Myrtle N. Estate Records 1772-1933. Book 1 has Covingtons pages 224-287. The earliest Covington will in this excellent book is 1801. Each entry is the estate record for the deceased (not limited to the will).
Covington, William S. The Covingtons, 1941. Available through HeritageQuest online. This less formal compilation has some interesting information and I found lots of good hints in the reproduced newspaper articles, but there are a number of errors.
McSwain, Eleanor P. My Folk, The First Three Hundred Years 1670-1970, 1972.
This is a well-referenced and documented book including deeds and wills for lots of Richmond Co NC Covingtons.
The section about Covingtons in "British Roots of Maryland Families" (pages 139-140) by Robert Barnes has many errors. This should not be used as a reference. (Available online through Ancestry.com and in libraries)
