Thomas Covington 1790-1826, Halifax Co., VA (maybe from Ireland)

ON 1826 Thomas Covungton gave permission for his daughter, Dicey Covingtoin, to married Richard Smith in Halifax Co., Va. (I have a copy of the marriage certificate) My grandfather told me that his maternal grandparents came from Ireland. I have not been able to find out anything about Thomas Covington, If he came from Ireland it would have been around 1800. Has anyone seen on ship, manifests, the name of a Thomas Covington arriving in Virginia around 1790-1810. I do not know the name of his wife or if he had children other than Dicey Covington.

I just saw the show "Riverdance" and the Irish dancing reminder me of the Irish Jigs that my grandfather use to do to entertain his grandchildren. Maybe I do have Irish ancestors.

Any help would be really appreciated. I have a database with many of his descendants which I will share.
