William Covey was my great-grandfather. He enlisted in Company B, Sixth Texas Cavalry, Confederate States Army. He was made a Corporal. All records were destroyed after 1862, when he was assigned directly to Stonewall Jackson. One of his sons, Charles Earl Covey, born near Wiley, Texas, was my grandfather. He said that William Covey was born and raised in Missouri and went to Texas as a young man. William Covey's father (name unknown) was said to have been married several times and to have had many children. My grandfather had some brothers who had a cattle ranch out from Bowie, Texas. You may wish to try the postmaster at Bowie for any of their children. There is supposed to be a book that was printed in the 20's or 30's that that traced the Covey family back to the one male ancestor who came to this country in the early 1600's in (I think)
Massachusetts. That's about all I know. Good luck in your search. Covey's are a closed mouth, onery, tough bunch. All of them that I have known would spit on the devil just to hear it sizzle!!
