Andrew,Elam and Elanson were names often used in the Barber line from NY also Elanson and Elam were found in the Covey line out of NY also.The original Elam Barber was born in the late 1880's Our barber side of the family has features of american Indian bt there are some similarities to the Africa american too so I wouldn't doubt there could be a connection although I am not sure what it would be.It took me years tryingto find my forefathers and I still need to do more digging so good luck on your journey.
