Thumbnail biography of Hiram P. Covey, son of Daniel Sr., & bro to Sarah (Mahaska County Iowa Biographical Album, ca. 1886) states that he, wife, & dau. emigrated to Mahaska County from Broome county, New York, in 1848, in company with brother-in-law and sister Sally (Sarah) Houghtaling. Biographical info of Hiram Covey, brother to Daniel Covey Sr., says that he was among the original settlers of Mahaska county when it was opened for land claims in early 1843, and that he was accompanied by a nephew and his (nephew's) wife. Some accounts name Daniel, Jr., some don't, and I've lost the attributes over the years. Hiram does appear in (I believe) the 1840 census in Van Buren County, Iowa (which was opened for settlement prior to 1840), but I found neither Daniel Jr., or John Houghtaling in that census, as I recall.

I feel that your statements on Sarah & John's marriage, & Daniel Jr.'s birth year may need re-examination, or that my facts are very much in error.

I've followed your postings on Sarah White & Jehoiakim Burger with much interest. Thank you.
