I have done no research on this, but I have before me a book that shows the extended family group I work with had a Martha Covey b ca. 1792(whose family did have roots in Virginia)who married a Daniel Barringer b ca 1788. It says he was the son of Adam and Hannah Barringer of Washington Co, MD. This Martha and Daniel Barringer lived in Jefferson County, TN where he died young in 1814 and she remarried William Watkins, so the book says. It might be possible that Daniel and Reuben Barringer were related (possibly even the same person!), but I don't know anything concrete about this family. There is a book called Some Descendants of Adam Barringer which could help you.
