She resided at Ste Marie Madeleine which was erected by Samuel de Champlain the French explorer in 1615. Her precise date of birth is not known, but the Ursuline Sisters seem certain that she was born in 1649. Her parents resided in this mission also, but the Mission was destroyed & evacuated March 16-17,1649. This Mission was 2 miles away from what is known today as the town of Lafontaine, Ontario.. MARCH 16, 1649 OVER 2000 Iriquois invaded the Huron village of Ste Marie Madeleine. They abducted Father de Brebeuf and tortured him in a savage manner. The Dutch had helped the Iriquois with supplies. Catherine Annennontak our relative lived through this and was taken to St. Joseph's island on Georgian Bay where they erected a fort, a new home and mission called Ste Marie II. Catherine was only a few months old when this occured.
