Michael appears on the l790 census in the Underhill, Tuckahoe area and seems to be across the road from 'widow Kortwright (Cartwright) who has 4 sons over l6. There are two different families in the area, and the spelling often is confused. Kortright is from the Dutch line and largely found around Rochester. Cartwright is from the Martha's Vinyard line and is English. I believe Michael, and the widow doubtles his mother (I supect a Smith) are the English line. I am working on Mary Cartwright born l766 and married to Jesse Lawrence. they lived Underhill and are buried in the St John's Episcopal cemetery there. I believe she is from the same immediate family. There are several mentions of the Cartwrights in Yonkers, (Underhill area). Edward and John are in the Yonkers military l775. Edward appears in the l800 census there, but no John (pos widow). IN my Lawrence line Mary and Jesse name one of their kids Gideon and he names a daughter Priscilla--both are common Cartwright names. The Cartwrights also appear on the rent rolls of Phillps Manor (Yonkers area) and are l776 to 83 are MIchael and HEndrick, but I am sure they are the Dutch line. There is another part of the Cartwright English line at Philips Patent, Dutchess co. Nicholas l706 of NIcholas m Patience burgess. l) SAmuel l742 who moves by l769 to Litchfield Ct, 2) Eliz l73l, 3) Christopher l732 m Anna Scheaffe, 4) SArah l733, 5) Edward l735 prob the Yonkers guy, 6) John l737 prob the Yonkers guy, 7) Marcia l739, 8) Ruth l745, 9) ann l748, l0 Rueben l75l d l790 m Eliz Sanford, ll,) Thomas l766. I think that #5 and 6 are the Yonkers guys and since Edward is alive in l800 that likely John Cartwright could be the spouse of "widow" Cartwright and probably the father of Michael.
