ahhh Jane, at long last somebody enquiring about a side line of the main family - you have no idea how relieved I am. thank you so much for posting the message, It has been all me and mine until now, perhaps others will catch on and leave messages too, I cant believe I am the only person who knows the names..........

Bath Somerset is home to the Smythe family, and Monica Curtoys married into that family, began the Bath Riding Club, produced a world class show jumping child called Patricia Smythe, and a son Ronald who I cant find, and nothing would surprise me at all.

Monica's father was in India, as was her uncle at least, think one was born there, the brother younger than her dad. It is possible that they both were born there, as yet I cant confirm any of the info, I dont have a lot of info on this family because the tree I obtained, is a direct line only.

There is also a Curtois family which was also in India. I think they are probably related, but no Doreen in any of them that I can see - certainly the name Pontifax doesnt ring a bell, but I still have a long way to go, there is an enormous gap in the English ancestors, for whatever reason.

The family were not shirkers though, they fought in every war and every scrap, and when they werent fighting they appear to hav been church men and teachers - a nice courteous family for sure.

so info, I have a Mary, wife of Peregrine Curtois, in the 1881 census. He was born Branston and she was born Welling Kent. they had a son Chauncey Curtois, aged 40 married and born in Welney, Cambridge. He is son of Peregrine, and a Major, retired List Indian Army, but... his wife apears to have been not home for the census, so just perhaps. Do you have Chauncey as a family name by chance?

I will keep my eyes open for you for sure, but if you could share more of what you have, ie places and names I would be really grateful, they are not easy to find at all.

my direct email is bushnook@ozemail.com.au if that makes it easier.

judy
