Kathy,

I want to thank you for you very lengthy and informative letter. You have obviously made a huge contribution of time and effort. This information will ultimately be helpful to everyone, including Betty Duke, who is in the process of analyzing all the data for conclusion. The more information there is on the table, so to speak, the more all can see both sides and eventually find the whole and real truth. It will all take a while to digest.

Thank you for your clarification on the attorney situation and the events that brought you to Texas at the particular time you came. Open discussion to find the truth has been my primary concern and purpose, but sometimes that means I get fine-tuned on the details. That's OK. I apologize for when I have assumed or thought wrongly. Hopefully all can feel similarly.

I have studied the picture issue and still have questions in my mind. You have explained your position on this quite clearly. You make some interesting historical points that will require much time and study before I or almost anyone could sensibly respond. Something tells me that between your information and Betty’s there is more logical and true information. Just because we do not know at the moment what it is, does not mean there is none. My challenge to you in my previous letter was basically asking you to help find the missing parts.

For clarification, I did not say, as far as I know, that the Texas Courtney’s ever refused to give blood and hair samples. I said that in Betty’s perspective male blood samples would not be conclusive in light of the apparent genealogical confusion.

I have found that the nature of most people who are passionate about a position, usually focus on their own viewpoint, while they largely ignore, minimize, and/or shun other opposing details. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if all could jointly pool their talents and work to respectively consider all information and find how it all weaves into one true whole? I hope all can accept that there is more for each to learn. It will happen a lot faster as data is shared. Kathy, your letter has helped this cause.

I have supported exhumation because I believe that would resolve the question once and for all. If Betty did not sincerely believe her position, exhumation would be the last thing she would want. I think that everyone on both sides of the issue has had to do some sensitive soul searching about the disturbance of a relative’s grave. In this case it is a difficult emotional issue without any flawless answer. Betty has told me on numerous occasions that she was concerned about family feelings, in particularly about the exhumation. She has felt torn but felt that the evidence did indeed rise to the level to justify exhumation and that this is what James L. Courtney would want. Also she has expressed a wish that all would work together until the whole issue was fully explored and fully resolved. I think Betty is being misjudged as being coldly focused on fame and fortune by some family members. I know that Betty and her immediate family are very nice people. Betty’s push is from an inner call to bring the truth to light, be it whatever.

Let me conclude with this. I think Betty has worked to be up front and honest. Many of her main points have not yet been fully and seriously investigated. She continues to receive supporting information and leads from various sources that she is soon to bring forward. I say to all sides, let’s keep an open mind and work to fit the puzzle pieces together rather than to ignore or throw what we don’t like away. That will bring the most productive result in the long run.

Thanks again,

David
