Peter Courtenay Clarke

I am trying to trace my Clarke family history, and so far going back to 1797 the 'Courtenay' name is used as a middle name in every generation except myself. Peter Courtenay Clarke was born in Stoke Damerel, Devon in 1797, his parents were Peter Clarke and Elizabeth (unknown). Could there be a connection with the Courtenay's of Devon? I would appreciate any help.
