Hi Shelly,
The Courtemanche, Shortsleeve etc names are not of Indian origin. They come from France. Antoine Courtemanche arrived in Montreal in 1659 from Maine in France. The Courtemanche Association in Quebec has traced many members of the family. In the 1800s some moved to the States and changed their names to Shortsleeves a translation of Courtemanche.
