Sydney Wilfred Court was my grandfather, born in 1895,at Pig Green,Eastling. Mother Ethel Lucy Court aged 17,a domestic nurse. No father mentioned on birth certificate or baptism entry.
He served in the IstWW for the Royal East Kent Mounted Rifles. I'm not sure where but think, from medals he received that he may have seen action at Gallipolli and France as he was badly gassed. He was sent to hostpital in Woodbridge, Suffolk at Foxboro Hall in 1918, where he met & married Gladys Mellish a nurse. They returned to Eastling, their first son Lional Sydney was born in April 1919, my father was born Sept 1920, Sydney died June 1921.
My father and I have never seen any photos of Sydney as my Grandmother destroyed all of these after his death, so we would dearly like to find a relative who might have any or suggest where we might find one.
A mystery exsists in that the family owned a house in Newnham Lane, Eastling in the short time after Sydney and Gladys married. After his death she sold it, we believe falling out with all of the rest of the family. We don't think Ethel, his mother was there in Eastling, but his grandparents were living in Newnham Lane at the same time. Did they live in the same house? Did they bring up Sydney,as their child as his mother was only 17 and single when he was born? On his marriage certificate he gives the name of his father as Henry Court, who was actually his grandfather. On Sydney's death certificate he is listed as a mechanic and army pensioner and he died of Philisis and asthma. who might his father have been?
Any help of any kind appreciated especially photos.
