Hi Marilyn Hmm, now it is my turn to be curious having read your message ! I've had a look through all my old paperwork re: the Courts family and found the Census-Surname Index for Warwickshire 1881 (the information is from the Mormon Index) On there is a Harriett Courts (born c.1853 Bedworth) married to a Henry Courts (born c.1850 Foleshill). They have a 3 year old son William Henry (born c.1878 Stoke). Could this be your Harriett ? The Henry Courts I would like to know more about was born c.1811. He was married to Catherine Bonham (born c.1811) and they had to my knowledge 3 children - Catherine (born c.1831) Henry (born c. 1833) and possibly Edward born 20.11.1841 (I'll come back to Edward). Catherine Courts (nee Bonham) died in 1844 after being in labour / childbirth for 3 days. I don't know if her husband Henry re-married, as he was only 34 it is quite possible that he did. Their son, Henry (and this is pure supposition) I think possibly married a Hannah Earle in 1848, but his age on the census and marriage certificate don't quite tie in so I may be completely wrong. However, you will be surprised to hear that the witness on that particular marriage certificate is one Thomas Bird Greenway. Now the name Bird Greenway is somewhat unusual therefore there must be a link. Going back to Edward - Edward married Jemima Ball on 11.3.1861 (Foleshill). They had 9 children:- William Edward, Amos, Lucy Elizabeth, Mary Jane, Roseanna, Sarah Jane, Samuel, Edward and Matilda E. Jemima died in 1884 and Edward emigrated to the US in January 1888, he took Matilda with him, the remaining children stayed in the UK. I have a separate entry for him returning to the States in 1903, but after that I don't know where he lived or what he did ie: remarried ? My Mother remembers receiving parcels from America just after the war, but she was only a small child and can't remember whereabouts they came from. SO, the name COURTS in Coventry / Foleshill is not common and there will be a link somewhere - we just have to find it ! If you can throw any more light on the Courts /Bird Greenways I would be very interested to know. In the meanwhile I will have a trawl through the UK census records and see what I can find (unless you have already done this ?) My name MARRIOTT is a bit of a red herring - it is my married name which I kept although I am long divorced. Look forward to hearing from you With kind regards Yvonne Notify Administrator about this message?
