Hi Sarah,
Yes, it would be the same Peter Court - died Newton Stewart 1873 etc. His age is given as 88 years so he was probably born c. 1784/5. Since I posted that message I have found four other probable children of Peter and Mary Ann from censuses etc, but no birth or baptism records: James c.1823, Michael born c.1824/5, Agnes c.1828 and Jannet c.1831. The death record I have for Michael: 4 Sept 1905 at Old Luce, age 80, married to Mary Gibson, father Peter Court. Mother's name is definitely Maryann Court, nee Johnston - Maryann is written as one word and could be mistaken for Margaret.

I haven't found any more about the origins of Peter and Mary Ann. I think some of their Irish relatives joined them in Wigtown at a later date, but they were known as McCourt. Some of the Courts also seem to have reverted to McCourt which makes it all more complicated! I'd be interested if you find anything else.
Cheers, Ann
