BETTY JOYCE PATTERSON COUNTRYMAN, age 68 Countryman, Betty Joyce Patterson
BETTY JOYCE PATTERSON COUNTRYMAN, age 68, passed away on September 11, 2002 from complications of a lengthy battle with emphysema and a recent diagnosis of lung cancer. Betty was born on April 21, 1934 to Eva and Leonard Patterson in Gadsden, Alabama. She is survived by her devoted husband of 51 years, Gene Countryman; her daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Wayne Cherry, son Gary Countryman; and three grandsons who were her pride and joy- Wayne and Jeff Cherry and Zackary Countryman. She is also survived by her brother, Tom Patterson and his wife, Carol; mother-in-law, Leila Mae Nelson; sister-in-law, Sue McCain; brother-in-law, Glenn Nelson and his wife Betty and numerous relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, a sister, Frances Patterson Carter and brothers, Elbert, Furman and Preston Patterson. Betty's love for the past several years had been her Web-TV, as it had brought the world to her, and her life was touched in a special way by the wonderful friends she met via her computer. She belong to EFFORTS (Emphysema Foundation For Our Right To Survive), an internet organization devoted to those who live with emphysema, and was a member of First Baptist Church, Pasadena. Betty will be laid to rest in Forrest Cemetery in her beloved Gadsden, Alabama, where she had longed to return for many years, but was unable to do so with her medical condition. Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 15, 2002 from 1:00 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. at the Collier Butler Funeral Home in Gadsden, Alabama with a Graveside Service following at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes that donations be made to the American Lung Association, 2425 W.
