My earliest proven Coulter ancestor is Hannah who married in Highland Co, OH, in 1818, John M. Black. Hannah was probably of Scotch-Irish descent like her husband. The other Culter/Coulters around may have come from Pennsylvania. Census data on where Hannah was born is inconsistent, saying she was born in Georgia, South Carolina, Pennsylvania, or Ohio. You ask "where?" both as to where James was born and where he died? What is your source of James' birth and death information that does not give the where? The birthyear could come from census data or a gravestone or elsewhere. But the census data would show where born. Do you have census data? The 1880 census is available free at www.familysearch.org. Nancy Jane (Coulter) McKinley's 1880 census listing will show where her parents were born. An Ireland to Pennsylvania migration path makes more sense for my Coulters than the South Carolina or Georgia. The Ohio birth for Hannah is almost certainly incorrect even though she married there in 1818. Her gravestone says she was born in 1796. If this was in Ohio, she likely would have been an Indian. I have several ancestors who passed through Ohio, but none are known to have arrived there before 1799 and that was early -- nothing but a wilderness. My Scotch-Irish Wrights have Scotch-Irish Wilson neighbors. Bill Wright - http://users.hal-pc.org/~wmewrght/ahnen.html Notify Administrator about this message?
