Hi Mike, Don't know where John was born, but DNA has proven he is English, not German as posted on inter-net. Not sure who his parents are but his father is a son of Thomas Couch & Elizabeth unkn of New Brunswich. They have a son William that is un-acountted for & we supect him as being father. The Couch's of this DNA bunch (Group # 5) are still looking where in England.
Thomas & Elizabeth are in the shipping business.
Now as far as JC being in Perry Co.Ky, we have never found any solid proof...census don't show it....We are beging to think JC was only married once & died after wife Mary Polly Boon & both are buried somewhere in Ashe Co. NC.
And family tradition has really been hard to break.
Even when the truth of documentation has surfaced.
The Orange Co NC marriage of Couch & Campbell is not the same people as the Ashe Co & Perry Co bunch.
Most of the family will not give up that tradition.
Summer of 2008 the DNA Couch group # 5 had a meeting for 5
days at Hillsbough, NC. It was packed full of information & tours of cemetaries, of the properties once owned by the early Couch families....most now belong to UNC & Duke Universities.
What ever that group of Couch's say " I will believe" they spent 3 years prepping for the outting, much hard work has been put into the family research. They are hard workers.
They have accepted John Couch of Ashe Co as one of theirs, Grandfather Thomas & grandson John have much family history, but, there is a huge gap of information in between, for son & father William!
If you want the Thomas family tree, let me know, it is confusing, since they all used the same names over/over.

Vic
