Richard, do you have any info on the Cottrell familywho would have been in or near Manchester, Clay County, Kentucky in 1864/65. My ggreatfather--David Franklin Lundy--was born there on August 8. It is unclear if there was ever a legal marriage (no records during civil war and ministers were hard to come by in the mountains). family tradition has it that his mother was a Cottrell. Family verbal history also says my ggrandfather was adopted by his natural father, a Quaker farmer from Penn. Ms. Cottrell had two other sons who were half-brothers to my gg. It is also highly possible that her maiden name was not Cottrell but that she married a Cottrell after having my gg and the two other sons were Cottrells. My gg and the two half-brothers went west and stayed several yers before returning to Ky and the Lee County Virginia Area.
