Louis Cottrell is my great great grandgandfather. He married to Eva A. Colter in 1886. I am trying to continue to trace my family geneology but can't seem to get much further. Here are a few of my problems. I have regarding his parents
1900 Federal Census States that..
His Father was from Pennsylvania
His Mother was from Ohio
1905 Minnesota Census States that..
His Father was from WA, Mich
His Mother was from Pennsylvania
1920 Federal Census States that..
His Father was from U.S
His Mother was from Pennsylvania
The only record I have found for a Lewis Cottrell prior to 1900 with an 1862 birthdate is the son of Thomas Cottrel (born in Tennessee) married to an Elizabeth Unknown (born in Ohio). This is in the 1870 Federal Census. Thomas and Elizabeth can also be found in the 1860 and 1880 Census but Lewis was not born before 1860 and was 18 years old in 1880 and must have moved out. In case this helps clarify here is some additional info.
Thomas and Elizabeth have the following children, all are born in Michigan:
Thomas Cottrel Jr. abt 1852
Wm James Cottrel abt 1854
George Cottrel abt 1857
Emma J Cottrel abt 1860
Lewis Cottrell abt 1862
Jesse Cottrell abt 1864
I have found two Marriage listings in Ohio in 1840 naming Thomas Cottrell. One is to Elizabeth McGuffin and the other is to an Elizabeth Gorham.
The children of Lewis Cottrell and Eva A. Colter are:
Ruth H. Cottrell
Mabel A. Cottrell
Maud M. Cottrell
Margarete Cottrell
John Lewis Cottrell
George Cottrell
Archibald Cottrell
I am not even 100% that Thomas is the father of the Louis Cottrell I am related to. If that is the case, Then I do not know who Thomas was married to what his actual brithdate was, who his parents were and where they were from. I have read through almost every posting on this site about Cottrell's and still have come up empty handed. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
