I just started researching this family and I have a problem with the information that I found in the process...I hope someone has the answer. These are Hummmmmmmmmmmmm Questions:
1. Richard Cottrell supossedly married Judith Smith on 14 Feb 1731/32
2. Richard and Judith's last child was supposedly born 27 Apr 1753
3. Richard's wife Judith supposedly died 02 May 1778
4. Richard Cottrell supposedly married Mary Alley on 06 Sept 1753
(about 4 months after his last child with Judith was born)
Is the death date wrong for Judith or did he get a divorce from her before he married Mary Alley???
I didn't run into Judith being an Indian Princess, but I did find the book: "Encyclopedia of Virginia Biography" Volume V; Pg 1065; which states: "Richard Cottrell, married for his first wife an Indian maid, Judith Smith, at Jamestown Island, Virginia. His second wife was a Miss Alley. So, is the book wrong?
