I have a copy of an old bible record for this family and it goes as follows (to the best I can read):

Memorandum of the marriage of Peter Cottrell and Susannah his wife and likewise the birthday of their children. Peter Cottrell was married to Susannah Sheppard November ?? 1778.

1. Richard b. Oct 26, 1779

2. Samuel b. June 7, 1781

3. Peter b. Feb ??, 1783

4. William b. June 13, 1785

5. Elizabeth b. May 23, 1787

6. Abel b. Jan 5, 1790

7. Reuben b. April 4, 1792

8. Joseph Sheppard b. Aug 1795(?)

Susannah Cottrell died July 1807(?)

Peter Cottrell and his SECOND WIFE Rachael Cottrell was married Jan 23(?), 1808

1. Susannah b. Nov 23, 1809

2. John Jefferson b. 1810 d. Sep 1810

Peter Cottrell father of the above children died July 26, 1815

Don Norman has Peter the son of Peter ans Susannah married to Rachel Carlisle and that appears to be incorrect.

Also, I have the older Peter Cottrell son of Richard Cottrell and his second wife Mary Atley (Alley) and he was b. Sept 1, 1760.

This Richard Cottrell's first wife was Judith Smith. Beyond this point, I have run into some confusion as to whom his parents are. There have been 2 books published and one says that Ricard and his brother Thomas and their half/step brother James Patterson arrived in thid country in 1714. This is according to Virginia Cottrell Pence. The other is that they are descendants of Richard Cottrell bca. 1662 in New Kent County, Virginia. As of this time, I have no clue which is correct and have no proof for either case.

Finally, in defense on Don Norman's webpage. I have not submitted the above info to him. Also, I have always taken these types of webpages as a "probable, please let me know what you think attitude or can you prove otherwise scenario". Most of these webpages are not 100% correct that is why we post them. I have one myself and if someone can supply proof to what they are saying then I am more than willing to correct my mistake. The very fact that we are discussing this problem proves that posting what we feel might be correct must be working.

Keep searching and by all means PLEASE BE CIVIL !!!!
