Here is transcriptions of the Cottrell Marriages of Bedford County, Virginia.

Johnson, James - Cotterell, Ann 1780.09.3377 - 22

Know all men by these presents that we James Johnson & Ann Cotterill are held unto Thos. Jefferson Esq. Govr of Virginia in the Sum of Fifty pounds to the true Payment well & Truly to be made we bind ourselves our Heirs & firmly by these presents Sealed & Dated this 26th Day of Sept 1780
The condition of the above Oblgn is Such that whereas there is a Marriage shortly intended to be had & Solemnized between that above Bound James Johnson & Ann Cotterill & therefore there be no Lawful cause to Obstruct the same then the above oblgn to be Void other wise to remain if full force & virtue

McCan, Daniel - Cotterall, Betsy 1807.01.4249 - 28

Know all men by these presents that we Daniel McCan & Wm. Ewing are held & firmly bound unto Wm. H. Cabell Esq Governor Chief Magistrate of the commonwealth of Virginia in the sum of one Hundred & fifty Dollars to be paid to the sd Governor or to his Successors for the use of the CommonWealth aforesaid we bind ourselves our Heirs Exors and Admrs jointly & severally firmly by these presents Sealed with our Seals & Dated this 5th day of January 1807.
The condition of the above obligation is such that whereas there is a marriage shortly intended to be had & solemnized between the above bound Daniel McCan & Betsy Cotterall.
Now if there shall be no lawful cause to Obstruct the said marriage, then the above obligation to be void, or else to remain in full force and virtue

Know all men by these presents that we Henry Kinzer & Stephen Cotterell are held & firmly bound unto William H. Cabell Governor Chief Magistrate of the CommonWealth of Virginia in the sum of one hundred and fifty Dollars Current money of Virginia to the true payment whereof to the said Governor or his Successors for the use of the said CommonWealth we bind ourselves & each of us, our and each of our Heirs Exors & firmly by these presents sealed with our seals and Dated this 11th day of October 1808.
The condition of the above Obligation is such that whereas there is a Marriage shortly intended to be had & solemnized between the above bound Henry Kinzer & Salley Cotterell
Now if there shall be no lawful cause to Obstruct the said marriage, then the above obligation to be void, or else to remain in full force and virtue.

Know all men by these presents that we Thomas Cotral and Anthony Campbell are held & firmly bound unto James Barbour Esq Governor chief magistrate of the Commonwealth of Virginia in the sum of one hundred and fifty dollars Virginia currency for the true payment of which to the said Governor we bind ourselves & each of us our and each of our heirs executors & firmly by these presents sealed and dated this 16th day of November 1812.
The condition of the above obligation is such that whereas there is a marriage shortly intended to be had & solemnized between the above bound Thomas Cotral and Sally Campbell, now if there shall be no lawful cause to obstruct the said marriage then this obligation to be void else remain in full force & virtue

Know All men by these presents that we James Cotterall and Josiah Carter Jr. are held and firmly bound unto James Pleasants Esq governor chief magistrate of Virgina in the sum of one hundred and fifty Dollars Virginia currency for the true payment of which to the said governor his successors for the use of this CommonWealth we bind ourselves each of us one and each of our heirs Exors & Admrs jointly and severally firmly by these presents sealed with our seals and dated this 22nd day of Novr 1824
The condition of the above obligation is such that whereas there is a mariage shortly intended to be had and solemnized betwen the above bound James Cotterall and Polly Carter, now if there shall be no lawful cause to obstruct the said marriage then the above obligation to be void Else remain in full force and virtue.

Know all men by these presents that we James Cottrell and Braxton Carter are held and firmly bound unto John M. Gregory Esq Lieutenant & acting governor chief magistrate of the commonwealth of Virginia in the just & full sum of one hundred and fifty dollars lawful money of Virginia, for the payment whereof well and truly to be made to the said governor and his successors & administrators jointly & severally firmly by these presents sealed and dated this 28th day of October 1842
The condition of the above obligation is such that whereas there is a marriage shortly intended to be had and solemnized between the above bound James Cottrell & Mary Ann Margaret Carter daughter of Mr. Braxton Carter of this County. If therefore there be no legal cause to obstruct said marriage then the above obligation to be void, otherwise to remain in full force and virtue.

Know all Men by these Presents, that we, Thomas J. Cottell and (no name written) are held and firmly bound unto the Commonwealth of Virginia, in the sum of one hundred and fifty dollars. For the payment whereof, well and truly to be made, we bind ourselves, our heirs, executors, and administrators, jointly and severally, firmly by these presents. Sealed and dated this 22nd day of September 1851.
The condition of the above obligation is such, That whereas there is a marriage shortly intended to be had and solemnized between the above bound Thomas J. Cotrell and Martha Jane Markham.
Now if there shall be no lawful cause to obstruct said marriage, then the above obligation to be void, or else to remain in full force and virtue.
