I don't know how much help I can be but these are records I have found on a Pryor/Prior Cottrell/Cotterell, etc. I have also included one for a Nelson Cottrell that I believe is a son to the Pryor Cottrell.

The Betsy Cottrell that Nelson Cottrell married in Madison Co., IL, I'm not certain but I think she was the daughter of a Martin Cottrell who lived in Madison Co., IL in 1840 along with Pryor and Nelson Cottrell.
In 1820 the Martin Cottrell was living in Smith Co., TN and Smith Co., TN is a border county to Davidson Co., TN.
