Family History not handed down
Posted by: Mark Anthony Cottrell (ID *****4119) Date: February 27, 2008 at 19:49:21
  of 1893

I am Mark Cottrell born in Pennsylvania, my father Jackie P Cottrell was born in Clay County Kentucky in 1935,with six siblings His parents are James Cottrell born 1906 Died 1987 and Bertha M Jones born ? died 2007 Manchester KY. James Cottrell had three siblings which includes one brother (John?) Cottrell. James Cottrell was a mule-back preacher in the early 1900's. Hence the nick name Preacher Cottrell. He spoke of travel in VA, W VA and NC but never spoke of his birth place. The families surname history stops here, James Cottrell's ancester was adopted, I do not know when the lineage between the Cottrell surname and Stamford surname was added in our history so we do not know which is the actual adopted name. I do know the family spoke olde Gaelic and handed the language down for generations and also spoke of the orphans from Ireland. I was not raised around the Cottrell's so I was not able to learn more of our history. I have learned that Cottrell (Cotter) and Stamford (Steam Ford) had been from the same farming Clan in the most southern region of Ireland.

The question for the person reading this post, have you come across adoptions of the Cottrell's in the United States or Europe?
