This is a transcription of the will of Peter Cottrell of Henrico County, Virginia. One line in the will is missing because of the copying and a partial line is unreadable because of a white blotch.

Will of Peter Cottrell of Henrico County, Virginia, dated 11 Jan 1811, and proved 17 April 1816. A more legible copy of the will can be found in a Henrico County Chancery suit, Infants of Peter Cottrell vs Peter Cottrell (#1827-007).

In the name of God Amen. I Peter Cottrell of the County of Henrico being in health of body & of sound mind &memory do make & ordain this my last will & testament in the manner & form following Viz. First I commit my soul to God who gave it & my body to be buried at the discretion of my Executors hereinafter mentioned.
Item I give & bequeath unto my sons Peter Cottrell, William Cottrell, Abel Cottrell, Reuben Cottrell, & Joseph S. Cottrell & my daughter Susannah Cottrell all the negroe property I possess to be equally divided amongst them In case my son Abel Cottrell shall allow seventy five pounds for the Negroe boy George which he hath in possession to them & their heirs forever.
Item I give & bequeath unto my son Joseph S. Cottrell the plantation whereon I now live, to be divided from my other land by a line beginning at a corner pine on the north west corner of Roger Jones' land & running nearly north (?western to the Rich Corter of my Calpill?) tract of land to him & his heirs forever.
?(There is a part missing because of the copying of the actual will)? one acres of land lying on tuckahoe creek whereon he now lives & hath a deed for the same to him & his heirs forever.
Item I give & bequeath unto my son Reuben Cottrell all the balance of my tract of lands lying on tuckahoe creek said to be one hundred & twenty one acres & adjoining the land I have given to my son William Cottrell; Also I give to my said son Reuben one hundred dollars in Cash together with one of my Stills to him & his heirs forever.
Item I give & bequeath unto my son Peter Cottrell one hundred & twenty seven acres of land whereon he now lives & hath a deed for the same to him & his heirs forever.
Item I give & bequeath unto my sons Richard, Samuel, Peter, William, Abel, Reuben & Joseph S. Cottrell my saw mill with the tract of land adjoining to be equally divided amongst them, in case they shall pay to my daughter Susannah Cottrell fifty pounds in Cash to them & their heirs forever.
Item I give & bequeath unto my daughter Susanah Cottrell one hundred & twenty acres of land to be laid off in one tract in any part of my land not already disposed of as my wife Rachael Cottrell may like best together with one hundred dollars in Cash to her & her heirs forever.
Item I give & bequeath unto my son Abel Cottrell one hundred & twenty acres of land in any part of my land not already disposed of as he may like best together with one hundred dollars in Cash to him & his heirs forever.
Item I give & bequeath unto my daughter Elizabeth Hucheson all the right, title & claim, I have in the land whereon she now lives together with all the bonds & open accounts I have against William Hucheson to her & her heirs forever.
Item my desire, is that all the balance of my estate both real & personal shall be equally divided between my sons Richard, Samuel, Peter, William, Abel, Reuben, & Joseph S. Cottrell & to my daughter Susannah Cottrell to them & their heirs forever.
Item my desire is that what I have given to my daughter Susannah Cottrell above shall be used & enjoyed by my wife Rachel Cottrell if she should live & reamin a widow until my said daughter Susannah shall ?(unreadable)? half of what I have given to her above the balance I wish my wife to enjoy during her natural life or widowhood.
Item I appoint my sons Samuel Cottrell, Peter Cottrell & William Cottrell Executors to this my last will & testament, disannulling all other will or wills by me made & declaring this to be my last will & testament. In witnesses whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this Eleventh day of January one thousand eight hundred and Eleven.
