My maternal grandmother's maiden name was Cottrell, her father was a blacksmith. I don't what his first name was, the best recall it started with a G or a C. They lived in Luverne,MN and South Dakota for a while. My father appeared to be Native American. When he was in high school, in the 1930's, he was kicked out of a restaurant while waiting for a ride. He said that the words "Get out you ----ing Indian" still rung in his ears. My brother is often asked if he is Native American. I don't know if much about my Dad's family, he's been dead for 17 years, My grandmother has been dead for 43 years. I'm 45, so I don't remember my grandmother at all.
