James Cotteral is listed in "A History of Ross and Highland Counties" as being a resident of Franklin Twp in Ross Co. in 1819. He is then listed as a resident in nearby Jackson Twp of Pike Co. in 1820, 1830, and 1840. According to the 1820 census he was older than 45 and in 1830 he was 60 to 70 and in 1840 he was 70 to 80. According to his Revolutionary War pension application, in 1841 he claimed to be 92 on Oct 14, 1840. That would make his birthdate Oct 14, 1748. His birthplace is not given but he was living in Amherst Co, Va during the Revolutionary War. Unproven children of James and an unknown spouse (looking for help to prove or disprove) are: Benjamin Franklin Cottrell Elizabeth Coterel Nancy Cottrell Patsey Coterel Polly Coterel Lewis Coterel Harrison Tyree Coterel (My Line) Lucinda Coterel Delilah Coterel These families were living (listed on the same page with James and Benjamin Cotterel) area according to the 1840 census. I believe this to be more than coincedence. However, if James was born in 1748 as he claims in 1841 then he would have been abt 69 when his youngest daughter Polly was born. Unlikely, but not impossible. I am planning on posting all Coterel/Cottrell/Cottrill family with Ohio connections that I have gathered in order to attempt to sort and keep sorted who is who.
