yes, I noticed that the genelogist had the two nicholas's father and son confused. And I do have the info that Martha was his second wife also, I have it noted in my work. I too use family tree maker.Where is your break off from the Nicholas Cottrell..who is your wifes grandfather? We decend from the branch that settled in Gorham Township in Fulton County Ohio and then Arthur later migrated to Michigan and Indiana then from there where our immediate ancestors are from.I dont have the story of them being forced from england to scotland but it does fit some of the legend that we too know off..would you mind sharing it? My email address is [email protected]
In the August issue of Reader's Digest, there is a article about a 1916 shark attack in the New Jersey area.A retired sea captain, Thomas V. Cottrell, rescued a boy and notified communties along a river of the unusual attack. I believe he is prolly also related as it is the immediate area of many of the Cottrell decendents at that time, however, as of yet, I have not been able to track it..he would of been born about 1848 since he was 58 I think at the time of the attack. This attack was the basis of Peter Benchleys fictional book and movie, JAWS.
