Linda,
I am also a descendant of Silas Asyles,
I recently came across a family book that was put together by a cousin about 25 years ago. The information she had was that Mary O'Brien was the woman that was captured during this raid by the Indians and the child she had upon her escape was Silas. I was shocked when I read this. She was married to Thomas Cottrell and he gave the baby the Cottrell name. This lore was recorded in the 1850 Census by Chessie Jarvis Rhodes, daughter to Sarah Cottrell.
I have heard several theories of which tribe of Indian this would be, but I have not found any evidence as of yet. I heard Blackfoot, Cherokee, Shawnee. I would like to find out more about which child was named
"Black Hawk" that was born to Andrew and Indian wife. I would appreciate any information anyone could post.
Thanks,
Marieta
