Thomas Cotten Jr., b. 1748, is my g-g-grandfather. This is not him. Neither James or Joseph mentions a son named Thomas in their wills. My best guess is that Thomas of Edgefield Co., SC and Amite Co., MS is an illegitimate son of Samuel Cotten, d. 1774 in Northampton Co., NC. Samuel names a Thomas Thomas in his will immediately after his three legitimate children (Samuel Jr., Euridice, and John) and Thomas of Edgefield County named his first son Samuel.
