There seems to be an ongoing arguement as to the wife of Arthur Cotton.
Sybil Lovelace/Loveless appears to be an known individual with a documented ancestry. I remember seeing another post where the fact that she was married to Arthur Cotton was challenged and a request was made for some original source to prove this marriage. No one ever gave an answer as far as I know.
The origins of Sarah seem much murkier. She has been given a variety of surnames and no history has been provided anywhere I have seen. However the proof offered for her marriage to Arthur has always been that in the 1850 census, a 70 year old Sarah was living with her son Theophilus. Since this is the only documentation I had ever seen for either Sybil or Sarah as Arthur's wife, I was convinced that Sarah must be correct.
Jean's revelation that the Sarah living with Theophilus was actually his 20 year sister changes everything. There no longer seems to be any proof that the Sarah who is alledged to be Arthur's wife even existed. At least Sybil was a real person.
